For more than 20 years, Kroll Ontrack have been analysing data structures, performing cleanroom recoveries and continuously investing in research and development. Leveraging all of that experience, Ontrack Data Recovery services can successfully recover data from solid state storage devices.
Through our Ontrack Data Recovery products and services, Kroll Ontrack can help clients understand and manage the challenges associated with Solid State Drive (SSD) Data Recovery. Our engineers have an in depth industry leading toolkit designed to offer customers a higher success rate and quicker data retrieval turnaround, while increasing the integrity of the information recovered.
Solid State Drive Growth
Large information technology companies and laptop/notebook manufacturers are increasingly integrating flash based SSDs into their business solution portfolios and consumer products, taking advantage of improved read/write performance, efficient heat dissipation, lower energy consumption and decreasing cost. While the market continues to grow, we see specific needs for more complex enterprise and industrial SSDs designed for industry leading performance and endurance.
Solid State Disk Brands:
Common Causes of SSD or Flash Data Loss
Unlike hard disk drives, Solid State Drives store data in flash memory chips. This eliminates data loss due to mechanical or hardware damage, such as head crashes or motor defects. Data loss occurs with SSD storage devices because they are susceptible to damage to the flash chips and how data is stored on them so SSD and Flash storage devices can suffer some of the same causes of data loss as traditional storage devices such as hardware failure, human error, computer viruses, power surges, natural disasters or software/program corruption.
Challenges in Solid State Drive Recovery
In addition to recovering data from the common sources of SSD failures, the Ontrack Data Recovery team overcome technical challenges that are unique to SSD and flash technology, such as decoding complex SSD data structures for individual brands, specialised controller chips and many other SSD specific issues.
Some of the challenges of data recovery from SSD media can include:
- Proprietary data organisation – there is a lack of consistent industry standards amongst manufactures using SSD which means that each device could be different from the next.
- Address line complexity (microprocessor or communication routes).
- Flash memory chip density (number of Flash chip configurations within an array).
- Implementation of customised wear-levelling algorithms.
- Error Correction Code Variables.
- Encryption and Encoding variations.
Kroll Ontrack has developed data reconstruction programs that will identify, separate and reassemble your SSD memory so that your files and data will be able to be extracted. Contact us today on 0508 872 259 for a free consultation and obligation-free quote.
